Au revoir chère Suzanne - Losing a virtual friend hurts too
20 juil. 2014, 15 h 00

In the night of July 14th, 2014 our friend Suzanne (Passirose) left us. Her daughter posted simply:

« Le combat de ma maman c’est arreté cette nuit. Elle peut maintenant veiller sur nous toutes. » (“My mom’s fight ended this night. Now she can watch over all of us.”)

Suzanne was a builder, a connecter and a friend to so many. I first met Suzanne in a bilingual online community for women with breast cancer. She understood the value of peer-to-peer support and wanted to help build the same support for francophones as she had found amongst anglophones. She worked hard to connect the few francophone women who were online at the time. But it paid off and she established an incredible community of women on SI-Fortes on Facebook.

Suzanne didn’t want anyone to feel alone. She was always virtually close by, providing information, support and comfort with understanding and sometimes with a sprinkle of humour. Her nickname on Virtual Hospice was very fitting – “pas si rose” – “not so rose” “not so rosy”. While she was frank and shared openly about the hard stuff, she knew it was also important to see the beauty in life and let the sun shine.

Ma chère Suzanne je sais que tu es encore en ligne. Malgré que le signal de notre wifi n’est plus assez fort pour recevoir tes paroles, ta présence sera toujours ressenti et nous réconfortera.

Merci Suzanne. On t’embrasse virtuellement.

For the newer members of our community who didn't have a chance to get to know Passirose, here are a few of the threads that tell a bit about her.

I will miss her dearly.

My heart is absolutely shattered.  I "met" Suzanne through Colleen.  We shared a special bond because of that virtual introduction and for that, I am eternally grateful.  Suzanne was so special, so honest, so loving and she will be sorely missed by everyone whose life she touched.  I know her generous heart will live on in the group she was so instrumental in bringing together.

I send my love and my deepest condolences to all who knew her and most especially, I send my virtual support to her family and loved ones.

Thank you, Colleen.  My life is exponentially enriched by the friendship I shared with Suzanne.  I will miss her.

With love,

AnneMarie

July 24/14

I am sending my sincerest condolences to the family of Suzanne.  You have lost a precious treasure.

In life it is so wonderful and so refreshing to find someone who cares enough to reach out to others who are hurting, in spite of their own pain.  Suzanne was such a person.

She will be a role model for me and many others – always.

Rest peacefully, sweet girl.  You have gently touched many lives.  You have the love of many.
