Passirose, a pair of jeans and our community
09 oct. 2012, 15 h 44

The article in La Presse starts (translation), “It’s a story of a pair of jeans — an ordinary pair of used, washed-out jeans that started a voyage. It’s a story of a few dozen young women who live with advanced breast cancer — of a solid friendship joined together bypassing all geographical borders. It’s a story of a pair of jeans that, at each stopover — from Chili to the United Kingdom, from New Zealand to Canada — carries with it comfort.”

But what the article doesn’t tell and couldn’t know is that this is also a story about the Virtual Hospice community and Passirose (aka Suzanne Lemay). Passirose started a thread Starring the end in the face and living now on our forum, which captured the attention of the breast cancer community on Twitter (#bcsm) and in particular a blogger Anne Marie Ciccarella. Having seen the thread, she wrote Being Fearless and collected messages for Suzanne through her network.

Suzanne and the jeans

As the network of connections spidered throughout the world, Anne Marie discovered the jeans of support through Jenny. The jeans had just arrived in New Zealand. Jenny, too, was living with metastatic breast cancer and she knew Suzanne. Together Jenny and Anne Marie made sure that Québec, Canada would be added to the flight path of the storied jeans.

For Suzanne, the emotions were overpowering – such as outpouring of support from more than 30 women, 8 of whom had died. Among them was Jenny. She died the day after sending the jeans and her love.

I have tears in my eyes.  Thank you for sharing this.  I am thankful that so many reached out to Suzanne.  I am thankful for the gift of Jenny and her friendship with Suzanne and I am humbled to have played a small role in bringing a bit of global love to Quebec.

You are wonderful and what you have brought together here is extraordinary.

MUCH love to you...

Dear Suzanne (Passirose) and Anne Marie (chemobrainfog) and Colleen:

One need look no further than you all for inspiration! Thank you for sharing this incredible story with us all. I also read word for word Anne Marie's riveting blogpost with all the amazing comments. Serendipity, solidarity and sisterhood combine to become one powerful movement!

One of Anne Marie's commenters wrote a paraphrase of the following quote: "Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen." Ralph Waldo Emerson

What a blessed conspiracy it is and how wondrous a story you live to tell! Keep sharing! Though we are listening and loving you from a distance, you all know from experience, when it comes to love and empathy one's heart has no limits. A true heart can indeed touch and be touched by others around this world we inhabit and connect us to those who occupy the heavens of our dreams.

You are all EXTRAordinary and I feel so grateful to have become acquainted with each of you. I have been so busy with my own labours of love lately, but consider this my official, though belated, Thanksgiving post!:)

With admiration and affection - hugs to all involved - xo
