Hi everyone! I'm new to the community. I'm a survivor of a two-year-long partial paralysis due to herniated disc and severe sciatic nerve compression. Now I'm up and running and I guess I can provide help by all means. Thanks.

Hi Dmal70
Welcoome to the community. Glad you are up and running:)  I am always curious, if you don't mind me asking, how did you find the Discussion Forum community?

I am sure there are many stories in being a 'survivor'. What do you think was key in helping you survive the past two years?

Glad you found us.

Hey Katherine!
I was down with sciatic nerve compression and it took me 2 years to get out of it. I was in the stage of partial paralysis. I went through intense physio sessions to cure it and the pain I had to go through was unexplainable. Meanwhile, I was not in the right senses. I was emotionally broken with all that I had to go through. Neither my family nor friends could be there for me and I had a girlfriend who broke up with me at that time. I had to go through all of that alone. And now, here I'm talking to you about my survival story.

Welcome to the community DMAL70 and thank you for sharing your survival story.

I have struggled with back and neck pain and can appreciate how arduous and long the journey is. I can only imagine how hard it must have been to have gone through it alone. I am curious what strengths and strategies did you draw upon that got you through the past 2 years? As Katherine mentioned, their are many survivors in this community and I believe we will benefit from your thoughts.

Kind regards,

Trevor Lehmann

Good morning DMAL70.

The feeling that I connected with when reading your post was one of optimism. Making it through is such a lovely way to describe your experience as something that was a process (sometimes people use the word journey) and not a one time event. This very much reminds me of how people describe grief. I wonder when you knew you were making it through? Did you always know or where there little shifts that you began to notice?

Warmly, AMT
